Dear AWAKE Members and Friends,
Plans are underway for our Tenth Annual Children’s Choir Festival to be held at Silver Lake College, Manitowoc on Saturday, February 9, 2008. The festival is designed to give our members and their students an opportunity to assemble with other Kodaly educators, make music and reaffirm our teaching. The past festivals have been well attended and a resounding success in the eyes of students, parents and directors.
We are excited to announce that this year’s clinician will be Diane Skorbis. Diane is the founder and director of the nationally recognized Children's Choir of Waukesha since 1999. She also teaches The Singing Tree, a music and movement class for newborns to age six and their parents. Ms. Skrobis has recently become a choir director at Pius XI High School in Milwaukee. Your students are in for an incredible learning experience. A Share Fair for directors is being planned for a short portion of the day to allow teachers to exchange ideas and have new resources for use in the classroom. The Manitowoc area offers many shopping and sightseeing opportunities for parents and family members.
The festival is open to any students in 5th-8th grade with unchanged voices. The students should represent your most talented and cooperative singers. Please be sure to balance your group with an equal number of students per part. Music and tapes for students will be sent to directors in December. Please be sure that the music is memorized to ensure the highest musical experience possible for your students.
Cost of this festival will be $25 per student for AWAKE members and $35 for non-members. This fee will cover the student’s lunch, music and other costs that are incurred by the festival. Please make one check for the exact amount payable to AWAKE when you register. Adult lunches may be purchased for an additional $6 per person and director's music at $9 per packet. Please include this when registering.
The tentative schedule for February 9, 2008 begins with registration at 8:30 am and ends with a concert at 3:30. The concert is open to the public and tickets will be available for purchase at the door, $5 for adult tickets and $3 for children's tickets. All activities will take place at Silver Lake College, Manitowoc.
Students may wish to bring bottled water, juice and healthy snacks for break times. Plan to have at least one other chaperone/adult in addition to yourself available at all times. Please fill out the registration form and return it with one check payable to AWAKE to arrive no later than October 21 to: KathrynKoll
Health and permission forms must be signed and sent or brought when you arrive at the festival

We hope you are as excited as we are to continue this exceptional opportunity for our students.
Sincerely, Kathryn Koll,
