KET President Annual Report February 2007

At our 2007 winter general membership meeting, the following people were elected to office:

 KET President-Elect: Lisa Roebuck

KET Treasurer: Emily Jones

KET Central Texas Representative: David Cain

KET North Texas Representative: Christina Raymond

It is wonderful having such talented people in music and organizational abilities to serve KET.

I attended the OAKE Conference in Chicago and enjoyed the array of talented presenters and meeting up with colleagues of many years. I look forward to attending the conference in Denver in 2008.

TMAC/TMEA began phase 2 of the assessment project. I am one of the writers for secondary choir assessment items. This is a very exciting project as we look forward to Texas having a quality testing instrument to help regulate the high expectations we have of public school music education. The finished project will not be available until next year (or later).

I submitted an article to OAKE for the fall Envoy about “Pitch Immersion.” It was accepted and should be published under the classroom section.

The Kodály Certification (endorsement being applied for) program in the San Antonio Independent School District completed our 4th year of training with the closure of Level II in June. Our Dulcimer class was once again a big hit!  Next year we are having Level I & III classes.  Our instructors are:

Ann Burbridge – Program Administrator, Conducting & Repertoire Level I

Carol Wheeler – Pedagogy and Folk Song Research, I, II & III

Karen Gentry – Pedagogy and Folk Song Research Level I

Paul Rauschhuber – Solfege I, II & III

Barbara Murphy-Frank – Conducting, Repertoire & Ensemble II

Dr. Gary Mabry – Conducting & Ensemble III

            Dr. Susan Bruenger – Recorders

            Davis Hightower – Dulcimer

I want to give sincere thanks to Vivian Ferchill for her leadership in our organization. Her gentle ways and sense of humor kept us all on track! Thank you Vivian for your help and assistance as I take over the reins.
