Dr. Betty Bertaux, founder/director of the Children's Chorus of Maryland, is regarded as an authority on vocal and musical development in children. A former faculty member of the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and Holy Names College in Oakland, California, she has been professionally active for over 40 years, working with music students of all ages. Dr. Bertaux is internationally recognized and often engaged as a guest conductor and workshop clinician with children's choruses and choral conferences. Currently serving as an adjunct professor for Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago, Dr. Bertaux is also internationally established and frequently commissioned as a composer and arranger of music for treble choirs. Her works are available via the Betty Bertaux Music Series with Boosey & Hawkes of New York and Alliance Music Publications, Houston.
• NEW! Free admission for Participating VU Conductors to a special Conductor Master Class with Dr. Bertaux on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 6:00-8:00pm. Details to follow.
• Dr. Bertaux will rehearse and conduct the Festival Chorus (all choirs combined).
• Individual choirs will work with Dr. Bertaux, who will provide oral and written commentary.
• You will observe other choirs work with Dr. Bertaux.
• NEW! Your choir will attend a Feldenkrais session.
• Your choir will attend a folkdance session.
• The day will culminate in the Voices United! Concert. Family & Friends are encouraged to attend!
ELIGIBILITY:
• Choir members must be between the grades 3–8.
• Choirs are responsible for their own expenses, including participation fees, lunch, and transportation.
• Choirs are responsible for providing a 1:5 adult chaperone to student ratio.
• Participating choirs’ conductors are responsible for purchasing and teaching all Festival Pieces.
• Each choir should prepare 1–2 selections under 6 min. representing the very best in children’s choral repertoire.
• Festival Pieces and individual choir selections must be sung from memory.
