with Jerry Jaccard Saturday, January 31, 2009, 9:30 am - 3 pm, California Room in Durocher Hall, Holy Names University, 3500 Mountain View Blvd., Oakland CA , Underlying most authentic singing games and adult folksongs is the ebb and flow of rural rituals and ceremonies. These are closely tied to the rhythm of life as expressed in seasonal celebrations determined by the predictable planting and harvest calendar, by local community traditions, and by less predictable personal life events. These, and much more, are the context and substance of what Zoltán Kodály intended to convey by a thorough education through and into folksong. In this workshop, we will explore a wide variety of customs, celebrations and rituals and how they may apply be used in our school music programs. Jerry L. Jaccard is Coordinator of the Elementary Music Education Program and Director of the InterMuse Academy for Kodály Certification at the Brigham Young University School of Music, Provo, Utah Please email or call Nancy at 510-524-7392 for more workshop info. |
