The school, now in its twenty-seventh year, provides a strong foundation in both visual and performing arts. The department of three music teachers is responsible for: general music classes in grades K-8 (twice weekly); three volunteer choruses; coordination of weekly assembly program; production of the Eighth Grade musical in partnership with the drama department. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching general music classes to two grade levels for a total of eight general music classes per week. He or she will also assist and accompany in chorus classes. Specific grade levels, as well as other duties, will be determined based on the candidate's strengths and experience. This individual will use interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with others in the music department and larger school staff to promote the general well-being of the grade level and the school community. We seek someone with a Bachelor's degree with teaching credential in music. A master's degree in music education or certificate in Kodaly philosophy is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three years experience as a music teacher in a school setting, training in the Orff-Schulwerk approach, piano skills for accompanying and directing vocal classes and groups, and the ability to conduct and demonstrate folk dances and other movement activities. We are looking for individuals who have strong classroom management skills with a vibrant and engaging teaching style that inspires students.
