Intercultural Knowledge and Competence

It is important for me to know the original sources of the material I teach, to represent my own culture well and accurately, and to call on culture bearers (live or on video) to accurately present the materials of their culture. For my entire career I have made a priority of teaching or presenting accurate performance styles in the music classroom. I have learned that I am not always the best person to do that and know how and when to rely on experts.

OAKE Member at Large 2015-6, and twice before that.
OAKE Regional Representative, Eastern Division, 2000. Served two terms.
OAKE Chapter MUSIK President, Secretary, Vice President 1980-2000.
